Is seaweed beneficial for helping cure cellulite?
If you are a female entering the period of early middle age you may start to notice the appearance of wrinkled fatty areas on your thighs and other areas of your lower body. This is the complaint that specialists in the beauty and natural health fields call cellulite and they associate it with a build up of toxins in the body.
Pregnancy, the menopause and a weakening and loosening of the skin that starts to appear after a certain age are all factors know to trigger or aggravate cellulite problems. Diet and lifestyle seem to be key determinants of how well the body is able to fight off the spread of cellulite.
Understandably women are especially concerned about how cellulite detracts from their appearance and they are keen to find a dependable cure. A cure that can deal with the underlying causes of cellulite rather than merely tackling the symptoms is clearly the preferred option and for this reason natural cures are usually favored. One of the most promising of the new natural treatments is seaweed for cellulite.
Seaweed needs no introduction to anyone who has ever visited a beach. Actually this term is applied to a wide range of aquatic plants and not all seaweed helps cellulite. The main types of seaweed for cellulite are called bladderwrack and Atlantic kelp. Both of these are common and hence inexpensive. They contain a number of valuable compounds such as proline, iodine, lycine, mineral salts and collagen. Acids found in seaweed are also present in our skin fibers and it is claimed that seaweed for cellulite applications can therefore help increase the skin’s moisture level.
While some people are known to eat seaweed, for cellulite the approach usually followed involves placing it on the affected area to deal with cellulite topically. Some firms have begun to manufacture seaweed soaps for this purpose. Seaweed-based creams are also available.
However, critics of using seaweed for cellulite in this manner allege that it also absorbs oils that are vital to the health of our skin and so they might do more harm than good. In any event, manufacturers of seaweed for cellulite products emphasize the need to follow a combined strategy that involves recommended lifestyle and diet changes as well as the use of the seaweed creams and lotions.
