Do you have cellulite on your thighs and butt?
Cellulite on thighs is one of the most annoying - and common - types of cellulite. At least when you only have cellulite on your butt, it's easy to hide with clothes. The only time you have to really worry then is when you go to the beach.
But with cellulite on thighs, you have to be careful about the clothes you wear. You can't wear mini skirts, and you have to be careful about tight pants. Sure, you can wear stockings underneath a mini-skirt, but that's not much consolation in summer. For some people, any skirt above the knee is out of the question. And in terms of fashion, and what flatters your figure, that can be a serious problem.
Scientists don't really know what causes cellulite, although they believe it has something to do with the way connective tissue in women holds the fat cells in place. Heredity, age, weight, diet, and other environmental factors may all play a role in determining whether a woman develops cellulite on thighs and buttocks, and how bad that is. There's not much we can do about heredity and age, but that doesn't mean we are powerless to do anything about this problem.
So, How Do We Get Rid Of Cellulite On Thighs?
There are a number of options presented to women who want to eliminate cellulite on thighs and other parts of their body. Creams, wraps, and other topical treatments are very common. They are appealing because they are easy. You don't have to work up a sweat, or even devote a lot of time to implementing them. You just rub a cream on a couple of times a day. And they are generally petty inexpensive when compared to spa treatments like endermologie and body wraps, which tend to cost hundreds to thousands of dollars over a series of treatments.
The question is, of course - what works?
Unfortunately, there is no way to permanently get rid of cellulite on thighs and buttocks. Even expensive treatments like endermologie aren't guaranteed to be permanent. And liposuction is not necessarily a good option for cellulite.
Liposuction removes fat from deeper layers of the skin, and cellulite is caused by fat stored close to the surface of the skin. And despite what some people say, cellulite on thighs and other areas is not simply a matter of excess fat. Sure, excess fat can exacerbate the appearance of cellulite. But how many skinny models and women of a healthy weight have cellulite? The answer is, a lot.
There are a number of factors that affect our connective tissue which leads to cellulite forming. When it loses elasticity, or tightens, both associated with aging, cellulite can get worse. The build-up of excess fluids and metabolites also has an effect. Liposuction does not address these factors. In some women, it can even make cellulite worse, although in others it can help with contouring.
Ultimately, exercise is the most permanent way to reduce cellulite on thighs. But like any other method, continued elimination of cellulite requires a commitment to continue exercising. The only quick fix is the temporary reduction of the appearance of cellulite that you can get with a good cream. So, all cellulite remedies have their place.
For those interested in using exercise to address the problem of cellulite on thighs and butt, Sherry Gideons at Bodybuilding.com has some good advice. Specifically, it is important to engage in a strength training program rather than simply aerobics. Aerobic activity is very beneficial for the cardiovascular system, but it won't help shift cellulite. You need to build lean muscle. And to get rid of cellulite on thighs and butt, your strength training program has to target the lower body.
Sherry recommends routines that involve 15 to 25 repetitions, without a rest between sets. She suggests you cycle through the exercises, doing 15 to 25 reps of the first exercise, followed by 15 to 25 reps of the next, and so on. Once you've done one complete round, you should repeat the process. And if you're fit enough, repeat it again.
The idea with not taking a break is to keep the heart rate up. You want to build muscle in that area, but also slim down there. You don't want a bulky body, and this way of training will help make sure you don't get it. Choose weights that will let you finish at least 15 reps of an exercise. The last few exercises can be challenging, but don't choose weights that you can barely lift.
The bad news is that you really need to exercise problem areas 4 to 6 times a week.
Of course, if you're exercising to reduce the cellulite on thighs and butt, you'll want to pay attention to your diet too. If you look at dancers who rarely have cellulite, they are not only extremely fit, but they have very little fat on them.
What's the best solution for you?
Well, exercise is the ideal way to shift cellulite on thighs and butt, however, it isn't for everyone. If you have a special event coming up, a good cream can still work wonders. Sure, the effects may only last as long as we use the cream, but if we know we won't commit to exercising 4 to 6 times a week, then it's certainly an option.
